This is a project funded by the NSW Government’s
support through the Women’s Grants Program of the Department for
Women. The aim of the project is to educate women but also give them
a chance to participate and learn the best methods to combat musculoskeletal
diseases. This project will comprise of two components. One component
of the program will be to educate women in: knowing where to get help,
balancing a healthy diet and knowing what foods to eat. Also included
in this section will be bone-density testing. This education component
will be conducted through a series of one-day seminars in August 2004.
The second component of this project is learning about appropriate
exercising. The idea is to have a series of different exercise programs
throughout different locations in the Fairfield Local Government Area;
that will give women a chance to try them all and see which ones they
prefer. This will be based on a “HAVE A GO PROGRAM” in September-October
2004 for 6 weeks, and to have a different activity each week. At the
end of the program women can choose which activity they prefer and continue
them either through a club or on their own.
